In order to cool down an overheating property market, Chinese government asked banks to refuse loans to people buying their third houses in areas suffering from soaring property prices. In addition, banks will also halt loans to those who cannot prove that they had lived and paid taxes for at least one year in cities where they want to buy houses. All the real estate related U.S. listed Chinese stocks in China 100 Stock Index tumbled, led by E-House China Holdings.
E-House (EJ), a provider of real estate services in China, dived 7.05% on more than two times the average trading volume. The stock was closed at way blow its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. China Housing and Land Development (CHLN) ended at $3.55 with a loss of 4.31%. CHLN is a developer of residential and commercial properties in northwest China. Xinyuan Real Estate (XIN), a residential real estate developer with a focus on high growth strategic Tier II Cities in China, fell 3.31% to close at $3.80.
Among other laggards of the day, China-Biotics (CHBT) had the second day high-volume loss, closing below the rising 50-day moving average. The stock ended at $16.27, or 5.74% lower. CHBT currently has a support at 200-day moving average of $14.54. Shares of Origin Agritech (SEED) have decreased for three days in a row, shedding 5.58% at $9.31, below 50-day moving average. The stock has been moving around its 50-day moving average for the past couple weeks. Shares of Ctrip.com International (CTRP) gave up previous gains and broke below the support at 50-day moving average, down 5.02% on high volume. CTRP is a provider of travel services.
Among the big upside movers of the day, China INSOnline Corp. (CHIO), as the best performer last week, continues its upward momentum. Shares of the company closed at $0.74 with a gain of 15.63% on nearly four times the average trading volume, or 12.93% of the float. China INSOnline is an insurance agency, offering automobile, property and life insurance services through its web portal. 3SBio (SSRX) slightly jumped back from previous losses, rising 3.59% to close at $10.38 on light volume of 211,000 shares, less than 2% of the float. This is a thin volume stock with a 3-month average trading volume of only 85,000 shares. China Pharma Holdings (CPHI) climbed back from a previous low and closed above the 200-day moving average, ending at $3.21 with a small gain of 2.56%.
China 3C Group (CHCG) climbed back from last Friday’s dip due to disappointing earnings results, ending at $0.44 or 4.76% higher. The stock has a solid resistance level at its 50-day moving average. Last Thursday, April 15, 2010, the company filed its 10-K. The report shows that net sales for 2009 decreased 32.88% to $208 million year-over-year. The decrease was attributed to the closing of 101 stores in 2009 and the negative effect of global economic slowdown. Net loss for 2009 was $(1.21) million compared to a net income of $26.83 million for 2008. China 3C Group is a wholesale distributor and retailer of 3C merchandise.
SinoHub (SIHI) today announced that its new 77,500 sq. ft mobile phone manufacturing facility has commenced operation. It also received new orders for 61,000 custom, private label mobile phones from four separate customers. The new mobile phone facility has annual output capacity of approximately 5.4 million handsets, or 450,000 handsets per month based on 12 assembly lines. The company expects to reach full capacity utilization, or over 75,000 handsets per month, on the initial two assembly lines by June 2010 to produce mobile phones for developing countries. The positive news helped the stock rally 2.75% to close at $2.99.
